Similar in design to Chelsea clocks of the same era they differed in that the movements were German made. This ships bell clock displays time on a 12 hour dial & chimes with watch bells on the hour & half hour.
Eight bells were struck at midnight & every four hours after. Each half hour increased the bells by one. Eight bells meant time to change the watch. The next half hour would start at one bell again. Bells will not chime if the clock lays flat on it's back, it must be wall mounted.
Clock measures 6 1/4 across the brass front which is a hinged door. The clock face itself is 5 1/4 in diameter. Back flange measures 7 1/8 in diameter & has four holes for wall mounting. It also has a flat head adjusting screw to silence the bells.
Measures 4 deep & weighs 4 lbs. In excellent physical & running condition.
Front glass door peg does not lock in closed position. Has no key but the #6 key on my universal fits both the time & bells winding pegs. The item "WWII Vintage Brass Maritime Admiralty Ships Bell Clock by Low Clock Co" is in sale since Friday, August 2, 2019.
