I have had this Antique Cerveny 4 rotary valve Tuba since 1971, and when I bought it I immediately took it over to the Mirafone plant. George Strucel was the technician there at the time, and I had him re-do all the valves, which are tapered, and get it playing properly. He said he wished they had made 20 French Horns out of the material instead of one Tuba, the metal is very supple. I can hardly lift it now, much less play it as it has a monstrous bore. It is currently zip-tied to a 2nd story 25 gallon water heater for safety in case of earthquake, and it is equally as tall as the water heater, as you can see.Our only son doesn't want it, so its time to get it back into the musical fray to be used once again by someone who would really love and appreciate it. The horn played fabulously, takes a LOT of air to fill it, and sounds GREAT!
As with anything this old, it has some dents on the bell and the bottom U tube where people have stood it on its bell over the years and it has fallen over. After all, its been through 2 World Wars and a number of other local skirmishes, if only it could talk! Made in Bohemia, when there was such a place. Only thing is, there needs to be a depot near you. Fastenal also has a good transfer service from store to store, but I understand they are not doing it at this time due to "Covid" which makes NO sense at all, just like their new policy not to accept any cash.
