Rare, very early low-bell, knop stemmed brass candlestick. This stick is 8" tall and 6" in diameter. Has low, hollow bell-shaped bases, flat drip pan, and simple turned stem with straight, slightly flared candle cup. This low-bell candlestick was made from the early 16th into the mid-17th centuries. The shorter, flatter knop on this stem dates it to circa 1650. The bell base and drip pan were cast as. One piece, the stem & candle socket cast as another.The two pieces were attached by a screw-thread cast into the stem which screwed into a threaded hole cast into the. Were soldered shut--a usual repair made in these old candlesticks.
Repairs around 18th or early 19th century. More than 350 years old!
The drip pan have a bit of a wave to it, as does the base. A few dings, the stem is a little ascew from from a couple angles, but straight when turned to other angles. These are a must have for collectors of early candlesticks or any early lighting!Please study it carefully and make your own conclusions.
