LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN ANTIQUE 4-TIER BRASS BELLS, with LEATHER TOP STRAP, COMPLETE with ATTACHED INTERIOR BELL BALL KNOCKERS. Late 19th to early 20th century Ame ri can antique brass & leather sleigh bells for horses & cows. 4" Height 14 ½" top Width x 15 ½ base Width. For sale is this very handsome antique set of four (4) graduated brass bells with an upper heavy leather harness, holding all four (4) bells in place. The two larger brass bells are the same size and the two smaller brass bells are also the same size, so the array graduates down from the two larger bells to the two smaller ones.

The leather of this over 100 year old sleigh bell ensemble is rigid and stiff but largely still wholly intact, with one end as it was originally cut and with the leather buckle loop having been previously torn at some prior juncture, weakened by perhaps prolonged exposure to moisture, heat and of course the cumulative effects of time. This late 19th to early 20th century brass bell array is supported from above with not only a thick rawhide leather strap but also reinforced with brass loops, holding a flat metal bar in between the brass bell's attached upper loops and the leather strip below it, allowing the metal bar to provide support without damaging the bells.
