LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE 14 PIECE RETICULATED BRASS EQUESTRIAN SEASONAL SLEIGH BELLS. With ORIGINAL LEATHER STRAP (incomplete). Sleigh bells have original, naturally aged.

Late 19th to early 20th century Ame ri can antique sleigh bells and equestrian riding accessories. 29 1/2" Length x 1" belt Height x 1 1/4" x 1 1/4".

The last two brass sleigh bells attached to the torn end of the leather strap, display some old breaks in the lower portion of the bells close to the strap, caused from the weakening effects of oxidation over many years. Since the sleigh bells are made of rather heavy gauge brass, this indicates the sleigh bell strand is quite old and is evidence of its antique pedigree. The thick tanned leather strap as well, although still fairly supple and pliable, is moderately crazed and crackled.

It's a fairly long strand, with fourteen (14) brass bells but not representing the entirety of the original sleigh bell belt. Of the 14 brass bell strand, there are no missing bells or intervals without bells. At some point the end buckle was separated from the rest of the leather strap. The belt remains as it was found in the post and beam barn here in southern New Hampshire where it was found.

Fortunately, only 2 of the 14 brass bells have sidewall breaks. Great for a front door or business door entry, musically chiming when someone enters.
