Presenting a graduated set of early 1800s cast brass sleigh bells manufactured by Joseph Shipman 1779 - 1859. Joseph started the company at the young age of 22 in New Britain, Conn. In 1801 after completing an apprenticeship with James North Jr.

In Stockbridge, Mass in 1800. The boys started making bells together for a short time before going out on their own. You will see 2 of the 13 bells are marked JN after James North. The rest marked JS or NO 4.

This set has 13 bells attached to an approximately 62 x 1 1/4heavy leather strap. Sizes: One 3 #14, Two 2 1/2 #12, Two 2 5/8 #11, Two 1 7/8 #7, Two 1 5/8 #5, Four 1 1/2 #4. The #4 are marked NO 4. One of the # 5 is mark NS and the largest #14 marked NS. The period leather strap is in very good sturdy condition.

The largest #14 bell has a hole and crack. One or two of the other bells has a crack. We have other bells listed.
