Here is a really nice original Steam Locomotive. Brass Bell off of G. A RY Train #752 which was a 2-8-2 MK-5 class. A true part of Texas Railroading history! The bell is clearly marked #752 on the bell and the yoke with very large stamped.
It measures 17 wide across its opening. It is 12.5 tall. Of the mounting yoke to the top it measures 25 tall. It measures 21 wide across the yoke. The yoke has numerous cast numbers and letters (see last 2 photos) known only to the foundry as to just. What these numbers and letters mean according to my research. Those 2 photos were taken while in the. The bells clapper is solid iron and the bell has a beautiful ring to it. The bell weighs in at around 100 lbs or more.The bells "Pull Arm" got broken of while being removed from the. Church belfry by the contractor.
Train #752 - Baldwin engine #39680 was originally ordered in 1913 from Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio Ry. Along with 24 others 750-774 and were all delivered to Houston & Galveston, Tx. The Southern Pacific acquired controlling interest in the GH&SA Ry in 1905 and also controled St.
SW Ry, T&NO Ry, SA&AP Ry and several other roads. After the GH&SA completely merged with the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1915 it lost its individual identity and train #752 served the S. P RR until it was scrapped on 8-8-1953. Shortly after being scrapped, Train #752's bell was donated the same year to the St.Henry's Catholic Mission Church that was once located here in Freeport, Tx. For their church Annex belfry.
