This Bronze Spanish Colonial Mission Bell is tamped 1811, circa early - mid 1900s. The year 1811 commemorates the beginning of Mexico's independence movement from Spain; Mexico achieved independence in 1821. In 1810, a parish priest, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, now viewed as the "Father of the Nation", led the first of many subsequent armed revolts against the royalist forces of Spain. He was captured and then executed in 1811. Measures approximately 8" tall, mouth 7.5"W, weight approximate 5 lb, 2oz.
