FRENCH ORMOLU & MOTHER OF PEARL. It was usually the wealthy who went on vacations during the GRAND TOUR era in Paris, France between 1850 - 1899. And this bell was most likely used to call their servers.
The Bell does work and is truly a unique and elegant piece. Intricate hand made brass ormolu DINNER BELL, forms a winged bird Finial and trios of bunches of grapes that separate the amazing colorful Mother of Pearl shells. The natural shapes of these 3 Mother of Pearl shells are really beautiful- with all the detail found in these lovely shells. The Bell clanger works on a spring device when touched it clangs the bell sound. Perched on top is the brass bird finial- which is in lovely condition, as many of these fine pieces don't always survive. The condition is really nice, the brass is not thick so the shape of this is pretty good, may not be perfectly round and the 3 feet on the bottom where you can stand the bell are thin as well, so do show a little bending which could probably be gently fixed. Measurements 5 1/2" Tall x 3 1/2" Wide.
