Antique 19th French Rare Bronze & Mother-Of-Pearl Shells Dove Bell

The bell features three large naturally iridescent mother-of-pearl shell panels mounted within an elaborate metal framework decorated with dimensional grape clusters, leaves, flowers and curling vines. An impressive sculptural bird in flight crowns the top. A mechanical push/lever assembly activates the internal bell/clapper. Documented Palais Royal examples were also marketed as luxury decorative souvenirs. The piece rests on a substantial circular white stone base that appears to be alabaster, consistent with documented period examples.

Mother-of-pearl shows natural surface variation and age-related marks. Please review all photographs closely for exact condition.

Original finish has intentionally not been polished or restored. No maker's mark has been located. Attribution to the Palais Royal/Napoleon III tradition is based upon comparison with documented French examples of the same construction and decorative form and is not a maker attribution.

A wonderful surviving example of Victorian-era French luxury tableware and mechanical bell craftsmanship.
