The bell would strike 8 times (actually 4 pairs of 2) with a slight pause between each pair to signal the start of a new watch. On the next half hour, there would be a single bell strike and then on the hour a strike of 1 pair indicating 1 hour of the watch was completed. This sequence would continue increasing every hour and half hour until the end of the watch when it would again strike the 4 pairs. This clock is in very good condition and runs and strikes well.

It has not been cleaned so as to protect the aged patina of the brass. There are a couple of very minor scratches on the brass. The back of the case is 7 5/8 in diameter with 3 mounting holes. The front cover has to be unscrewed to wind the clock. The key is included but not original.
